Partner Up: Pommies Cider Co.
Pommies Cider was a welcome addition to our line up of wine, beer, and mixed beverages at TIW 2017. You probably already know this familiar Ontario cider company, as they're pretty much found everywhere cider is served. Their delicious crisp, cold cider pairs well with summer fun so partnering with them just made good sense. On top of everything else, they give away apple trees! Needless to say, we're in love.
Tell us about Pommies.
Pommies Ciders are locally and naturally crafted from the juice of 100% Ontario apples at the cidery in Caledon, Ontario. Pommies Cider Co. is home to our flagship Pommies Cider, Farmhouse Cider and our seasonal Pommies Perry. We are independent, family-owned and family-operated.
Where did Pommies start out?
Pommies was established in 2010 in Caledon, Ontario by husband and wife team, Nick and Lindsay Sutcliffe. Both left their corporate jobs in Toronto to move to the country and pursue their dream of producing a quality cider. Pommies currently has 10 full time employees and is the largest craft cidery in Ontario.
Last year was the first year we had Pommies on the menu! Campers loved the addition of cider to the weekend. What drew Pommies to be part of a summer camp for adults?
Pommies is all about supporting local, embracing the outdoors and having a great time with friends, so it seems we have all of that in common. Two Islands is a great place to get away from the hussle and bussle of city life and unwind - we definitely support this!
And you don't just support local businesses, you also have your own cause you're passionate about.
Going into our fifth year, we have teamed up with the LCBO for our Annual Apple Tree Giveaway which runs in April and May. During the campaign, when customers purchase Pommies Cider and/or Pommies Farmhouse Cider, they receive a free Gala apple tree, which customers can then plant and reap the harvests for years to come. The initiative highlights the fact that Pommies and Farmhouse are natural products made with 100% local apple juice. To this date, we have put over 500 trees back into Ontario's soil.
What's the best pairing for your cider?
Pommies Ciders pair well with many things. Any pork or spicy dishes will do the trick. An aged cheddar or baked brie also pairs beautifully with all of our ciders. Have a look on our website for more food and cocktail recipes using Pommies!
Is there anything people would be surprised to know about Pommies?
All of our ciders are gluten free, GMO free and vegan. Our ciders do not contain artificial flavours or colours and are never made from concentrate, leaving a refreshing, crisp taste of local goodness.
